2020 Recap

Events

New Rochelle Board of Education virtual townhall

The Wykagyl Crossways Neighborhood Association hosted a townhall where the candidates running for the BOE had an opportunity to introduce themselves to the community and answer questions from the audience. The event lasted an hour and a half and had almost 100 attendees.

A Virtual Tour of Wykagyl's History

The Wykagyl Crossways Neighborhood Association, in partnership with local historian Barbara Davis from the New Rochelle Public Library, held a virtual event on Wednesday September 2nd on the 300+ year history of New Rochelle with a focus on our neighborhood.

The event started off with an overall historical recount of the first settlers in New Rochelle by the sound, how land was distributed back in those days, and lastly how the City expanded to the north. It was at this point that Ms. Davis provided a deep and meticulous explanation of how Wykagyl was born.

You can see the recording of this event on our website or the New Rochelle’s Public Library’s website.

Accomplishments

The Wykagyl Crossways Neighborhood Association led the effort in requesting the city of New Rochelle to pave and install speed humps in Berrian Rd. Both were completed. The association also sponsored the clean-up and tree planting at the Seacord & Webster island, the funds authorized by the association were used for the installation of top soil and mulch, 6 lavender shrubs, daffodil bulbs and a tree. Finally, the association's constitution has been updated and ratified by the board and it can be found on our website

Looking forward to 2021.

The Association’s board remains active despite the current pandemic. Like many other organizations we have sped up our desire to go digital, using e-mail correspondence, posting newsletters online, hosting events and meetings via Zoom and allowing dues to be paid via PayPal.

For 2021 the association is looking to spend funds in reinforcing our online presence as well as hosting more events in a way where we can safely assist community.

In response to the current situation the board has also changed the fiscal year to reflect the calendar year. At the beginning of 2021 we will hold our annual meeting, online, where we will provide the membership an update, collect dues and start planning for the year ahead.

A meeting invitation will be sent via e-mail where upon registration you'll get a Zoom meeting invite. Starting in 2021 dues will be $35 and can be paid online on our website or by mailing a cheek to 71 Berrian Rd. If you have any questions feel free to emails us at wykagylneighborhoodassociation@gmail.com

On behalf of the board we want to wish you a wonderful holiday season and a happy and healthy 2021.
